Manual Seating Enhancement
« Topic Start: May 09, 2009, 07:59:25 AM »

When using manual seating, it would be useful to have a feature where STM suggests a random seat to assign to the player from the remaining open seats when they buy-in, and give the option to then accept that seat or input a different one manually.

The auto-seating feature in STM lets you assign seats randomly after all players are bought in.

The manual seating feature lets you seat additional players as they buy in later after the auto-seating is done.

Adding a random seat assignment to manual seating will let you seat all players randomly as they buy in, one by one, without the need to have physical seat cards to pick for seat assignments.

If I were to do this, which I might, I would need to either have the user input the number of tables available or calculate it based on the max number of players entry. Otherwise, table one would be filled with the first ~10 players, table 2 with the next ~10, etc... This would create an unfair (not random) situation where unethical players (aka: cheaters) could buyin together to virtually ensure they end up at the same table. The downside, though, is that if you don't have as many players show up as you plan for, you'll end up with a bunch of short-handed tables, so you'll need to break down a table before the tournament even starts. I suppose this is just the way it is. It's no different than it would be without software, so I'll pursue it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I see your point, but calculating the number of tables based on max players seems workable.  Would also need to increase available seats in the middle of doing buy-ins if the max players were ramped up in the middle.

I'll re-visit the idea of generating a random seat suggestion at buyin, but for now (build #6), you can manually assign a seat to any player as they buy in. If you select a seat that's already taken, the "confirm" button gets disabled. Also implemented in build #6 is the incremental seating feature which allows you to assign random seats to only those players who don't already have a seat assignment.

Sounds good.
