I would recommend trying to start just a little earlier, maybe 6:30, if you want to be done by 11:30. Do you have a certain time by which you MUST be done, or is it just preference?

As far as the split goes, 50/50 splits in the charity tournaments around me (I'm in the Detroit, MI area) seems common. I think that's dictated by state law governing charity poker tournaments. I can only recommend that you check to see what's legal in your area. At a minimum, though, I personally think the charity should get 25%.

For the format, I would go with the "automatic" blinds schedule, which is pretty gradual (rewards skilled players). If you're really time-constrained, I would probably go with the PokerStars sit-n-go schedule. Go with at least 20 minute rounds at the beginning, and drop the times of the later rounds to maybe 15 minutes if necessary. Don't do any rebuys or addons if you're time-constrained.

I'll play around with this some more and give you some more solid advice, but I have to go now. I hope I've given you a little bit of a head start.

Decide what denomination chips you want to use. You can start as low as 1 or as high as you want. Most people set tournaments up using either 5's or 25's as the lowest chip. This will dictate whether your starting stacks will be in the 1000-2000 range or 5000-10000 range. If you have unlimited chips, you should probably go with starting at 25, just to give your players more of the "big tournament" feeling. It's completely an illusion since it's all relative, but a lot of people go for the "big tournament", "as seen on TV" feeling, so what the heck.

Again, I have to go. Let me know what you're thinking as far as chips and starting stacks and I'll give you some more specific advice.

Good luck.

TM.

When's the tournament?

I may be able to get you into a beta of version 2.0, which will handle seating, table balancing, etc... if there's enough time, if you'd be interested.

Might be tight for the beta version, but I'll try.

More to follow on the chips & blinds...

Is the date you gave earlier correct? Thursday, 9/20?

Thursday night seems a bit unusual, so I was thinking you might have mistyped and meant October, or Sat., 9/22. If it's a Saturday, I might even be able to play and/or get some players for you, if it's an open tournament. Let me know...

I'm hopeful that I'll have the beta ready for you...

Check out these pages at homepokertourney.com for some great information on how to seat and move players, etc...

Here's a link to a rulebook that you'll definitely want to have on hand:

You should really check out all the great information homepokertourney.com has to offer. It'll help you out a ton!

I probably won't be able to make it (east-sider), but I'll let some of my poker buddies know...maybe they'll be able to make it. If I do, though, I'll definitely find you and introduce myself.

Beta version is coming along very nicely. I think I'll have something to you this weekend.

Take a look in the game announcement board. With version 2.0, you'll be able to post a message like the one(s) there with just a couple of mouse clicks (once your tourney is set up). You can then email potential players a link to the announcement.

ULREPAIR,

Thanks for your patience. I just completed the beta and set it up for your tournament. Obviously, you should go in and tweak it as you see fit, but I wanted to give you something that you could run with.

You should now have access to the beta testing sections of the forums and the downloads. The updated beta is in the downloads section. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing it. It's a zip file containing the spreadsheet and 3 sound files. Extract it to a new directory and you should be good to go. The add-ins that were required with version 1.61 are no longer required, but there's no problem with leaving them active.

All functions on version 2.0 are exclusively available via the right-click menu. Depending on where you are, you'll see different menu options. Jump around a bit and I think you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

I don't have instructions or a help file completed yet. If you have any questions, etc..., post them on the beta testing board.
